JOYSTICK ASSEMBLY

The place I work at was getting rid of some 5/8"X4'X8' pieces of particle board. I took at and used it for the joystick controller panel.

Board Size

Here are the pieces cut out for the joystick panel. On the front piece, I made the top angled so it would match the side pieces when it was assembled. I completely forgot about the back piece and made it too short to angle.

Here are the holes drilled for the buttons and joysticks. I have the 6 button layout for the fighting games and the top for start and select. The two buttons under the 6 others were on the PS2 so I decided to put them on. When I bought the buttons and joysticks from X-arcade, I saw the layout they had on their joysticks and made mine similar.

Holes drilled

I made the holes with a 1" hole saw. As you can see on the top button, they don't fit. The buttons were too big by about 1/32 of an inch.  I don't have a 1 1/32" drill bit so I got my dremmel tool to make the holes bigger.

Buttons dont fit

I pre-assembled the the front panel to see if it fit and also work on the electronics.
Face assembled

I did some design before I started but things were constantly changing as I worked on it. One example is the switch for the PS2 and DC controllers.
Switch placement

Because of how I made the switch, I had to make a hole in the box.

Look at how close the switch fits to the box.
