FAQs

Are you kidding? People need to visit my site before I can have a FAQ page.

However, I guess I can answer a few questions about the Arcade some people have asked me when I showed them.

WHY DID YOU DO THIS?
I have wanted to do this for a while. I did not know exactly what design I wanted (2 player, 4 Player, guns, track ball, etc.) and since I have never built one before, I knew I would want to make another one. I made the first one to get practice. I don't have enough room in my place for 2 arcades so I decided to give one to my friend  for his birthday.

DID YOU PHOTOSHOP THE PICTURE ON THE SIDE OF THE ARCADE?
No. I also did not use a sticker or a print of some kind. I had it professionally painted.

DID YOU PAINT IT?
No. I have a good friend who is going to school for art. He was out of school for the summer break and was willing to help me with the painting. If you like the work, you can visit him at www.chrispurdie.com.

DID YOU FIND A KIT?
No. I looked for a few weeks online to find some kind of kit or plans. I found some design plans but they were for sell. I also found some kits but they also cost money. I wanted to keep cost to a minimum so I designed and made everything myself.

WHERE DID YOU GET EVERYTHING?
I found the buttons and joystick at X-Arcade. I got the wood, screws, paint, lexan and other building materials from Home Depot. I got the controllers from Wallmart and a used video game store. I got some electronics from Radioshack. Another friend donated his TV and I had everything else in storage.

HOW MUCH DID IT COST TO MAKE?
The short answer, I spent about $200 of my own money. The long answer is between me and everyone who donated their time, materials and money, the total value of the machine is at about $3000. I put about 100 man hours of my own time and my friend who painted it put between 20 and 30 hours of his time plus his paint into the project. I hope the friend we gave it to feels it is more valuable than the numbers I have thrown out.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE?
I have wanted to make an arcade for a while but I finally made the decision to do something about it in April of 2007. I looked for plans or possible designs online. I was unable to find anything. I should have looked more because I found a lot more since I finished. I started construction in June of 2007 and finished it in the beginning of September 2007 to give to my friend for his birthday.

MY BIRTHDAY IS ON (DAY) OF (MONTH). I.E. CAN YOU MAKE ME ONE FOR MY BIRTHDAY?
How much is it worth to you? If answer is "come on, it's my birthday just give it to me": I'm disinclined to acquiesce to your request. Means "no".
